Upgrading the Employee Directory Connector service
This guide details how to upgrade the Employee Directory Connector (EDC) Service for ThoughtFarmer Cloud customers using on-premise Active Directory as their primary user store.
The EDC Service runs locally on your internal application web server (visible as ThoughtFarmer EDC Service in services.msc) to process active directory synchronizations.
Procedure
Log in to your application web server as an Administrator and launch the
EDCManagerexecutable.Note: The setup wizard automatically pre-populates existing environment configuration settings using the following system registry key:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ThoughtFarmerAuth.Select your active ThoughtFarmer Windows service, then click Upgrade selected instance.
Select the Employee Directory Connector checkbox.
Architecture Note: Only select the Single-Sign On Site checkbox if your Windows SSO service is hosted on a separate server from your EDC service. If both reside on the same server, leave this unchecked.
Click Next.
If you selected the Single-Sign On Site option in Step 3, the IIS site settings screen will appear; verify the settings and click Next. If a pop-up warning alerts you that a folder already exists at the target destination path, click OK to accept and proceed.
Confirm the host directory folder path for the ThoughtFarmer EDC Service (pre-populated with your existing installation path) and click Next.
On the Web server settings screen, review the connection parameters used by the EDC service to authenticate with your ThoughtFarmer Cloud application. Verify these pre-populated fields using the reference guide below:
| Parameter field | Description | Navigation path / Value source |
|---|---|---|
| Main Site URL | The public FQDN of your ThoughtFarmer intranet. | Enter your full intranet URL (including https://). Do not use localhost unless the public URL is inaccessible locally. |
| API Token | The secure token used for service authentication. | Navigate to Admin panel > Integrations > API Tokens and copy the Service API token string. |
| Active Directory ID | Not applicable for this installation type. | Leave blank. |
| SSO ID | Not applicable for this installation type. | Leave blank. |
| Service UID | The unique identifier for your external directory store. | Navigate to Admin panel > Users & security > Employee Directory Connector, select your Active Directory store, and copy the ID value from the Basic information tab. |
Once all values are verified, click Next.
Allow the installer to complete the upgrade process until a success confirmation screen is displayed.
Post-upgrade verification tests
Perform these validation tests immediately following the upgrade to confirm that the EDC service is operational and executing sync routines properly.
Test user synchronization
In ThoughtFarmer, navigate to Admin panel > Users & security > Employee Directory Connector and click your Active Directory store.
Open the Synchronization settings tab.
Click Validate credentials. Refresh the page after a few seconds to confirm that credential validation passes successfully.
Select one or more routine synchronization tasks configured under your daily schedule, then click Synchronize now.
Open the Synchronization logs tab to monitor progress. Confirm that the sync executes and finishes with a successful status. (Note: Review the historical duration of prior logs to gauge expected processing time).
