Canadian time zone changes on November 1, 2026
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, clocks in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and North-western Ontario will no longer fall back by an hour. These regions have moved to permanent daylight time, so they will no longer change times twice a year.
What's changing
| Region | Before Nov 1 | From Nov 1 onward |
| British Columbia | UTC-7 | UTC-7, Pacific Time (British Columbia) |
| Alberta | UTC-6 | UTC-6, Mountain Time (Alberta) |
| Manitoba, North-western Ontario | UTC-5 | UTC-5, Manitoba |
How ThoughtFarmer handles time
ThoughtFarmer saves times in UTC and converts them to local time when it displays them. The conversion uses two settings:
- Your site's Default timezone, set by an administrator.
- Each user's own Timezone, set in their profile settings. When a user hasn't picked one, the site default applies.
We've updated ThoughtFarmer's time zone data to include the new BC, Alberta, and Manitoba time zones. You don't need to install anything.
If you're in the affected regions, you will need to update your intranet's default time zone and each user's time zone. Once these are set, your calendar events should display correctly. However, some events scheduled on or after November 1 may show up one hour later than you intended.
To learn more, see Timezone settings.
What to check before November 1 if you have offices in these regions
For administrators
- Go to the Admin panel.
- Click Site settings on the top left, under the version number.
- In the Default timezone field, select one of the new time zones:
- (UTC-07:00) Pacific Time (British Columbia)
- (UTC-06:00) Mountain Time (Alberta)
- (UTC-05:00) Manitoba
- Click Save.
- Let your employees know they may need to update their time zone in the General settings section of their profile settings.
- Review calendar events scheduled after November 1, especially recurring ones and anything shared with offices in the US or eastern Canada. These events could be off by an hour.
- If you display Outlook or Google calendar events in ThoughtFarmer, check events created under the old time zones.
- Check scheduled publishing and expiry dates on news posts, broadcasts, email newsletters, and pages set for early November.
For employees
- Make sure your computer is up to date: Windows Update for Windows, or Software Update for macOS.
- Check your computer's time zone settings and make sure it is set to the correct time zone.
- On your intranet, click your name or profile picture in the top right to open your profile settings.
- Under General settings, confirm your Timezone is set correctly, then click Save.

FAQs
Will the content that I've already published change?
No. Publish dates, comments, and edit history are stored in UTC and stay accurate.
Our team is in Toronto, but we work with a Vancouver office. What changes for us?
From November 1 to early March, Vancouver will be two hours behind Toronto instead of three. Recurring cross-office meetings may land at a less convenient hour and may need to be rescheduled.
My calendar events on or after November 1 are an hour off. What should I do?
Check that the time zone in your profile settings is correct. If it is, you may need to reset the event's time.
