Learn about Homepage News cards
News cards on the homepage make sure that relevant news and information is available to intranet users at all times. Administrators can source News card content from internal News, Blog, Forum and Calendar pages, or external websites, so that content from these pages displays on the homepage and is automatically updated.
There are two types of cards used for News: News Carousel cards and News cards (available in Grid view or List view).
Group news on the homepage
News cards on the homepage also display personalized news that comes from groups a user belongs to. If there is a News card in any column on a group page, the members of that group can see those news items on the group page and on their homepage. Group news can show in any News card on the homepage, but does not show in a News Carousel. To have News from subscribed groups display in a homepage News card, select the checkbox Show news from subscribed groups when configuring the card. You will then see the default Group News source listed under Sources as News from subscribed groups. To hide group news from a homepage news card, deselect the checkbox Show news from subscribed groups.
If enabled, users have the option to choose which group pages feed news to their homepage by clicking on Manage News Feed at the top of the News card. In the Manage News Feed pop-up window, users can then select the boxes for the groups they want to see news from, and uncheck for the groups they don't want to see. The settings users choose in the Manage News Feed pop-up window will apply to any News cards on the homepage. Users are not able to hide any news items that the administrator has set up to show on the homepage for everyone.
Homepage News grouping and order options
There are two options for how news information is grouped in Recent News. This is true whether you are using the Grid or List display style.
- Items grouped by source: This option separates each news source into its own section. News from all of a user's groups shows in one section. The number of items from each news page can be configured separately with this option.
- Merge sources to show newest item on top: This shows news items from all sources in the same section. This includes news items directed to all users, and news from users' groups. The newest item always shows on top, and you can select the total number of items to display.
Calendars will display in a News card only if the option Items grouped by source is selected.
In a News Carousel, multiple sources are merged and show newest items first, unless the Curated option is selected and the admin selects a specific order for the carousel posts.
Change the homepage news grouping
- On the homepage, click the gear icon on the right of the top navigation. In the menu that opens, select Edit homepage.
- In edit mode, the Update cards window will automatically be open.
- Find the News card you want to change and click the gear icon on the right of it.
- Select the radio button for the option you want - Items grouped by source, or Merge sources to show newest item on top.
- Choose the # of items to display from the dropdown menu (For each source, or in total, depending on the option you chose above.)
- Click Update in the News setup window.
- Click Done in the Update cards window.
- Click Save on the top right.
Change the order of news sections on the homepage
This only applies if the option Items grouped by source is selected for the order.
- On the homepage, click the gear icon on the right of the top navigation. In the menu that opens, select Edit homepage.
- In edit mode, the Update cards window will automatically be open.
- Find the News card you want to change and click the gear icon on the right of it. The News setup window will open.
- Hover over a news source in the list. Drag and drop the news sources into the order you want them to display.
- Click Update in the News setup window.
- Click Done in the Update cards window.
- Click Save on the top right.
