Modify a page template
Modify templates with Cards
An organization using ThoughtFarmer can choose to give permission to modify the templates for individual pages to:
- Administrators only,
- Everyone with View & Edit permission on a page, or
- Members of a specific security profile when they have View & Edit permission on a page.
So depending on your organization, you may or may not have the ability to modify page templates using the instructions below. If you do not have permission to modify a page template, but would like to customize something, talk with your intranet administrator.
If you're an administrator, to learn more see Page type template permissions.
For a basic introduction to Cards, see Overview of Cards.
How to start modifying a template
Before modifying a template, choose a Content type and Template that are close to what you want your page to have on it. Then modify the template.
These instructions can also be used for modifying the homepage template. There is no need to select a Content type & template on the homepage as there is only one option for the homepage. To learn how to enter edit mode on the homepage, see Homepage options.
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon) in the page header to go into edit mode on the page.
- Click Set up cards under the Content type & template heading on the right. The Update Cards pop-up window will open.
- At the top left beside the selected template name, click Modify template. You will now see plus signs at the bottom of the template columns, indicating that you can add new cards.
How to add a new Card
After following the instructions above to enable template modification, follow these instructions to add new Cards:- Hover over the plus sign in the column where you want to add a Card. Click on the Add card box that appears. Available Cards appear in a pop-out from the right.
- Scroll through the listed Cards or use the search box at the top to narrow down the list and find the Card you want to add. When you find the Card you want, click on it to add it. A placeholder for the Card will appear at the bottom of the column where you have added it.
- If the Card you have chosen requires set up, click on Set up under the Card title, or click the gear icon on the right.
How to delete a Card
Certain Cards cannot be deleted from templates, such as the Left Navigation Card and the Page Header Card. These Cards are indicated with a lock icon in the Update Cards window. In some instances, a Card does not have to be deleted from the Update Cards window for it not to show on the page. For instance, if a page has a News Card, but the Card contains no News Sources (either because it was never set up, or because all its News Sources have been removed), then the News Card will not show up on the page. To delete a Card:- Click the Edit button (pencil icon) in the page header to go into edit mode on the page.
- Click Set up cards under the Content type & template heading on the right. The Update Cards pop-up window will open.
- At the top left beside the selected template name, click Modify template. You will now see trashcan icons on the right of some Cards, indicating that you can delete those Cards.
- Locate the Card you want to delete, and click the trashcan icon on the right of the Card.
- Click OK in the pop-up dialog to confirm the deletion.
- Click Done in the bottom right of the Update Cards pop-up window.
- Click Save or continue editing.
How to change the order or column placement of Cards
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon) in the page header to go into edit mode on the page.
- Click Set up cards under the Content type & template heading on the right. The Update Cards window will open.
