Glossary of analytics terms
Term | Definition |
Active users | Licensed users whose account status is Active on the intranet. |
Bookmarks* | The total number of times users bookmarked the content during the selected date period. |
Comments* | Total number of comments the content received during the selected date period. |
Comparison |
Some analytics widgets display comparison statistics with the previous date period. How is the comparison calculated? Comparison = (Current period count - Previous period count) / Previous period count * 100 |
Content created* | Number of content items created during the selected date period. |
Custom profile fields |
Custom profile fields are a way of segmenting users. Custom profile fields are created by an intranet administrator. Currently, only dropdown list-type custom profile fields can be used to segment users. To view custom profile fields on your intranet, go to: Admin panel: Users & security section > Template - profile details |
Downloads* |
The total number of times users downloaded the content during the selected date period. Downloads are only available for attachments. |

Group types |
Group types are a way of segmenting users. A group type can be a default group type that comes with ThoughtFarmer, or a group type useful to your organization that has been added by an administrator. To view group types on your intranet, go to: Admin panel: Content section > Group types |
Included content types |
Calendars, Events, Files, Forms, Forums, Forum topics, Groups, Homepages, News/Blog, Pages, People, Photo galleries, Polls, Posts, Profiles, Sections, Shout-outs, and Updates These content types apply to Content created, Unique views, and Engagement metrics. |
Likes* | Total number of likes the content received during the selected date period. |
Number of keywords | Number of unique keywords users searched during the selected date period. |
Number of searches |
Number of searches users conducted during the selected date period. Searches are only counted in analytics if a user clicked on a search result after performing the search. |
Page insights |
Analytics for a particular piece of content. Page insights do not include data for subpages or attachments. Example: The Page insights for "Department A" will present data solely for the page and not the subpages or attachments. Metrics such as unique users, unique views, and engagement statistics will reflect numbers solely for that page and will not include metrics for the subpages or attachments. However, a separate table for attachments is included within the Page insights. |
Section insights |
Analytics for a section, including the parent page and all attachments and subpages, including: Attachments, Calendars, Calendar events, Folders, Forms, Forums, Forum topics, Groups, News/Blog, Pages, Photo galleries, Posts, Sections Example: Department A: includes 4 attachments and 3 subpages. The total content in this section is 8, consisting of the parent content (Department A), 3 subpages, and 4 attachments. The Section insights for "Department A" will aggregate data for Department A, its 4 attachments, 3 subpages, and any attachments on the subpages. |
Security groups |
Security groups are a way of segmenting users. To view security groups on your intranet, go to: Admin panel: Users & security section > Security groups |
Unique views* |
The number of visits during the selected period, counting each visitor only once every 24 hours. If a user visits the content multiple times during the 24-hour period, they are only counted as one unique view. |
Visitors | The number of distinct active users who visited the site during the selected date period. |
*Includes draft, archived and deleted content.
